What Causes Lung Cancer? Learn About Its Treatment Methods
Here is information provided by Dr. Aditya Vidushi, Senior Consultant at Dwarka’s Max Super Specialty Hospital, about the risks associated with lung cancer and ways to prevent it.
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. It often spreads in the cells of the respiratory tract and later to other parts of the body. Today, let’s understand the risks of lung cancer and how to prevent it.
Quit Smoking:
According to Dr. Aditya Vidushi, Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology at Dwarka’s Max Super Specialty Hospital, smoking any form of cigarette, bidi, or other tobacco products is the most common cause of lung cancer. Smokers are 20 times more at risk compared to non-smokers. Quitting smoking significantly reduces this risk. Counseling, nicotine replacement therapy, and certain anti-craving medications can help smokers permanently give up the habit.
Avoid Secondhand Smoke:
Exposure to secondhand smoke, also known as passive smoking, can also cause lung cancer. Keep a distance from smokers in recreational areas. Advocate for public spaces to become smoke-free zones.
Air Pollution:
Air pollution is a significant cause of public health issues, including lung cancer. Using air purifiers, avoiding outdoor exposure during high pollution times, and wearing masks can help reduce risks.

Lung Cancer Screening:
Lung cancer screening is done using LDCT (Low-Dose Computed Tomography). It helps detect lung cancer at an early stage, improving chances of recovery. Experts recommend that men aged 55–75 who smoke should undergo screening.
